Woman's head scarf

Southern Tunisia/Libya
Wool, indigo, cotton
Early 20th century
84" (213 cm) high by 54" (137.2 cm) wide

This unusual indigo-colored baknough is from southern Tunisia or Libya. It has white cotton dashed lines woven into the sumptuous blue wool field and a series of white cotton stripes. Its texture has a denim-like feel to it, possibly because the wool was spun with a little cotton, and it is lighter in weight than most baknough. It has just a couple of small holes in the field.
