This large festive bowl, chqâla, was made in Nabeul, Tunisia. These were used at family dinners, often containing the couscous. It is said that the fish motif and the yellow/green colors symbolize water and freedom. This bowl measures 16.5” in diameter, is 6” high, and hails from the second third of the 20th century. It's in very nice condition but for a little glaze loss on the fish and some edge chips, and a little gray paint on the underside.
