African Tribal Art - Heddle pulley, Guro, Ivory Coast

A sublimely expressive heddle pulley from the Guro of the Ivory Coast. The half closed eyes and large circular mouth with teeth and tongue showing give this face an emotional quality that is nearly spiritual. It suggests a singer perhaps of the Gyè cult, known amongst the neighboring tribes. Possessing a very fine encrusted patina, it measures 6-1/8" in height.  #9113  Price on request.  Contact
