Mask
Middle Hills, Nepal
Wood
11″ (28 cm) high by 7.5″ (19 cm) by 4" (10 cm) deep
Late 19th to early 20th century
With a somewhat unconvincing smile, the expression on this mask is ambiguous yet powerful. It is large mask, with a prominent forehead and wonderful patina. There is a greenish-yellow painted circle on each side temple and a hole in the top of the head. The reverse shows deep adze work and an old woven cotton tie.
