The Nandi (bull) was the sacred vehicle of Hindu god Shiva, and is typically seen in small bronzes such as this, wearing a saddle, a beaded necklace with a bell and a lingham in front, which is guarded by his left foot. He reclines on a plinth, Badhrapeetam, and shows much wear from being repeatedly touched, likely being part of a home shrine.
