In Japanese folk lore, the fox has both auspicious and malicious qualities. As a messenger from the Rice God, he represents a bountiful harvest and wealth. On the other hand, he is a wily creature who can take on human form for trickery and deceit. The fox also possesses infinite vision, an all-hearing ear, the secrets of the souls of others, and full knowledge of the past and present.
