Asian Tribal Art - Coco de mer kashkul, Persia

This is a glorious Sufi kashkul or “beggar’s bowl” from Persia. It is carved from half of a coco de mer, a large nut endemic to only two of the Seychelle Islands. It has a chain with the original large beads still attached, and a brass spout, as these were also used as drinking bowls. It measures 12” long by 6” wide and has a deep shiny black patina.  Qajar dynasty, 19th century.  #3130  $1400
