This is a kashkul or “beggar’s bowl” from
Persia. It is carved from half of a coco de mer, a large nut endemic to only two of the Seychelle Islands. This one is carved with the scene of a lion attacking an antelope in a field of birds and flowers. There are three small holes that have been plugged long ago, seen in the photograph below. The body is in perfecr condition with no cracks or holes. The rusty chain was used to carry the bowl from shoulder or arm – please see photo. It measure 10” long and 5” wide. 19th century. #1991  SOLD
