This territory marker is from the Tharu people of the Dang area of SW
Nepal. It was a monument to a local female deity and was placed at the
boundary of a village to guard the community against evil or hostile
spirits. The top panel shows a crescent moon and a sun while the middle
section has two skirted beings walking or dancing. There are two more
figures on the bottom panel along with another riding an elephant.

is 12” wide and comes with a custom base. Late 19th century or earlier.
