This territory marker is from the Tharu people of the Dang area of SW Nepal. It was a monument to a local female deity and was placed at the boundary of a village to guard the community against evil or hostile spirits. The top panel shows a crescent moon and a sun while the middle section has two skirted beings walking or dancing. There are two more figures on the bottom panel along with another riding an elephant.
