Curiosities - Iron "bloom", Gambia, Africa


This is an unusual piece of iron found in an ancient iron-smelting site near the village of Kumbija Kaabaakoum in Gambia. It is called a “bloom” and is crude iron drawn from the furnace during the smelting process. This piece measures 8.5” high by 7” wide and is mounted on a custom base. Date unknown.  #3138 SOLD
